May 22- Small Claims Training

This week I completed my Small Claims mediation training with Kevin for N2N.  I was surprised and grateful that he went out of his way to provide this lengthy training far outside of the normal schedule.  He is very supportive and flexible.   This training helped situate the Small Claims Court into the broader court setting.  I was thankful for my UO “law” classes as they helped me understand the legal framework for how these things work and the peculiarities of this particular court as well.  Of all the aspects of this form of mediation, I am most intimidated by the agreement writing aspect of it.  Agreement writing requires attention to detail that is well outside my area of strength.  I am hopeful that in practicing thorough this internship, and volunteering in general, that I will become both more skilled and more comfortable with this responsibility.
